Studying how AR influences Involuntary Memory

We don't know much about how augmented reality (AR) affects our memories. More specifically, if a person using AR is shown visual content in a certain physical environment, will they be more likely to remember it spontaneously (for example, when they return to the same physical environment later or simply think about it) than if they had been shown the content using an ordinary screen?

AR elicits approximately twice as many IAMs in controlled settings, although no measurable effect was found in everyday settings.

Reducing confusion between Real and Virtual in AR

False Memories and Extended Reality Technologies have been a bit explored, and 20% of our memories recalled wrongly the source of an item ("Have I seen the apple in XR or in Real?"). No solution has been proposed, and this project aimed at examining which visual cues could help to remember correctly the source of the item.

Using edited images relocating distant waste to change environmental attitudes

This project explored how spatial psychological distance in images influences waste awareness. A pre-test identified visual elements that enhance impact, leading to two nearly identical images differing only in waste placement (Local vs. Relocated). The experiment assessed emotional response and personal involvement, though findings remained inconclusive due to a small sample size.

About me

I'm a PhD student passionate about human cognition, especially where technology meets memory. My research examines how augmented reality (AR) influences autobiographical memory, exploring whether immersive AR experiences can create vivid, believable memories that "trick" the brain. Outside of research, I'm a curious creator, with skills in digital design and computer graphics that bring my ideas to life.

Education

PhD Student (2023-Current) "The influence of AR on autobiographical memory: focus on involuntary memory and false memories" supervised by Pierre Dragicevic , Hélène Sauzeon.
Bivwac, Inria Bordeaux Sud-Ouest

Summer School A one-week programme aimed at developing a set of skills critical to current practices in cognitive science, both in an academic and industry.
Hacking Cognition, Université Paris Cité.
